Pay QR vs an EFTPOS terminal

A QR code costs you nothing to have and nothing to keep. An EFTPOS terminal costs roughly $25–$40 a month to rent whether you use it or not. Both take card, Apple Pay and Google Pay. The QR also works when you have already driven off — the terminal does not.

The arithmetic

Rental figures are typical Australian small-business rates as at mid-2026 and vary by provider and plan — check your own contract. Stripe's processing fees are charged to you by Stripe and are not set or received by LawnOps.

Where EFTPOS terminal wins

If you work where there is genuinely no mobile signal, a terminal that stores and forwards is the better tool. Pay QR needs data, the same as any app on your phone.

FAQ

Do I need an EFTPOS machine to take card payments?

No. A QR code the customer scans with their phone camera takes card, Apple Pay and Google Pay without any hardware. Payments settle to your own Stripe account and pay out to your bank.

How much does an EFTPOS terminal cost in Australia?

Typically about $25–$40 a month to rent, plus merchant fees, depending on provider and plan. That rental is charged whether you take one payment that month or fifty.

Who holds the money?

You do. You are the merchant of record — funds settle to your own connected Stripe account and pay out to your nominated business bank account, usually in about 2–3 business days.

Does LawnOps take a percentage of the payment?

No. LawnOps takes 0% of what your customer pays you, at any volume. Only Stripe's own processing fee applies, and Stripe charges you that directly. It's a written commitment in our operator terms, not just a claim on a page.

What if the customer isn't home when I finish?

Send them the same payment link by text or email. Most people pay it that evening, which beats posting an invoice and waiting.
